WHY Volunteer

What to Expect

Every BLRC event runs entirely on volunteers. No aid stations, no course marshals, no packet pickup, no race, it's that simple. We can't hold an event without people willing to show up and work a shift.

Think about how many times a volunteer has helped you at a race you didn't organize, refilled your bottle, pointed you the right way at mile 20, handed you a warm layer at 2am. Every one of those moments happened because someone volunteered their day so yours could go better. This is your chance to be that person for someone else.

Volunteer shifts run anywhere from a couple hours to a full day, depending on the role. You could be handing out water at an aid station, pointing runners in the right direction at a course junction, checking bibs at packet pickup, sweeping the back of the pack, or marking the a trail for runners.

Most shifts are outdoors, some start early, and a few run late into the night (like our Backyard Ultra or Lost Sierra Endurance Race). You don't need trail experience to help. You do need to show up, help out, and be ready to cheer for strangers like they're your best friends. By mile 40, they might be.

Our volunteer captains will send out shift details, timing, and what to bring a few days ahead, plus a reminder as your date gets closer.

❋ HOW TO SIGN UP

All our current and open positions are listed below for own races and our partners. Please be sure to not overlap your scheduled time with another position during an event… if you sign up for multiple overlapping shifts, we’ll pick one for you. If there’s multiple options, please select your favorite. You should receive a confirmation email with race details upon sign up.

❋ WHAT YOU GET

For each volunteer who works five hours or more at a single event and you'll receive a $120 credit toward any BLRC race. No catch. Sign up for a race later that season or the next one, and the credit is already waiting on your account.

❋ Part of a club or non-profit?

If your club, group, or non-profit are able to volunteer with us, we’ll happily offer $500 to your group! To qualify: 5 people from your group would need to complete 5 hours of volunteering at open positions, each.

❋ What if I need to cancel

Life happens! As soon as you suspect that you can’t make it let us know. Races solely depend on your help, without it we can’t hold these events, please allow us enough notice to fill the spot.
